The Dean House historical marker has been listed in a national database of historical markers. A Monona resident, Gordon Govier, has been taking photos of Monona area historical markers and entering them into this database. Recently he sent in the information on the Dean House and HBGHS. THANK YOU, Gordon.
This website is an illustrated searchable online catalog of worldwide outdoor markers, monuments and plaques. It contains photographs, inscription texts, marker locations, maps and links to more information. Anyone can add new markers and update existing marker pages. It is managed by a group of volunteers headed by J.J. Prats in Springfield Virginia.
This might be just the web site you need to plan your next road trip. Check it out.

Membership in the HBGHS is so important in maintaining our numerous files, records, historic house and precious artifacts. Your loyal support is greatly appreciated and we sincerely THANK YOU. HBGHS members are needed for the ongoing success of this awesome historical society. We would like to INCREASE our current membership, and you can help. Please consider
1) giving a gift of a membership to a friend or relative
2) telling your friends about HBGHS and the Dean House
3) bringing guests to Second Sunday Open House
4) sharing your copy of The Courier with others, and
5) RENEWING your membership.
And--you can also support the HBGHS by becoming a VOLUNTEER. An hour or two of your time would be wonderful. Whether you help with filing, sewing, cataloging, cleaning, painting, repairing, well, you know--the list goes on and on--we always have a good time on Mondays, and we know it is for a good cause--preserving the past for the future.
Gloria Simley, Judith Bodden and Ann Waidelich have started to catalog the Dean House artifacts using the PastPerfect software under the tutelage of Rebecca DuBey. Rebecca, who has a degree in museum management and experience cataloging with PastPerfect, has volunteered to "show us the way". We have learned a lot in the few weeks we have been doing it. If you are interested in helping us stop by on Monday afternoons between 1 and 3 pm and we will show you what's involved. See photo on page 3.
