Mission

The Historic Blooming Grove Historical Society preserves and advances the culture and history of Blooming Grove, Monona and Southeastern Madison--all of which was, historically, in the Town of Blooming Grove. The Dean House is a living testimony to the pioneer spirit fostering our American heritage and contributing to our growth as a community and serves as a center for events and local history study.

Funding

The Historic Blooming Grove Historical Society is funded by memberships, contributions and grants. There is no fee for any of the society's public events, but donations are always welcome.

Atwood History Club

Sponsored by the Goodman/Atwood Community Center, the history club is an informal group of people who like to reminisce about growing up in the Schenks-Atwood neighborhood and shopping on Atwood Ave. and Winnebago Street. The monthly meeting times include a mix of weekday mornings and weekend afternoons. There is a designated topic for each meeting but the conversation wanders as memories surface.

Greetings from HBGHS President

By Gloria Simley

We will soon be having our Annual Meeting -- May 6th -- and I would like to share our accomplishments.

Memorial Day -- The parade was excellent and we sold coffee, pop, and donuts from the front porch. This is a great way for our volunteers to welcome summer.

Second Sunday Open House -- We usually have about a dozen guests. Thanks to our docents who so willingly help "show off" this lovely farm house. Also, thanks to Ann Waidelich, our curator, for featuring interesting artifacts in the display cases in the Museum Room on the second floor.

Back Porch Concerts-- Seven concerts entertained a total of several hundred people last summer. Look for another summer of great music this year. And don't forget our famous ice cream social in August.

We are extremely proud of our new website. Ken Smith, webmaster, has put together a great site. Check us out at www.bloominggrovehistory.org

Basement -- We have a new cement floor and the stone walls have been tuckpointed and the plasterboard walls have been painted. It will soon become a farm exhibit space.

New light-weight tables were purchased and Gary Hess has been repairing and regluing our wooden chairs.

As always, I would like to thank the Board of Directors and volunteers who have made this an extraordinary year. And Thank You members, for your continued help and support.

Come and visit the Dean House on the second Sunday of each month, or on Monday mornings to volunteer your help.

With my very best wishes for a lovely spring and summer, Gloria Simley, President.
