Greetings from HBGHS President

By Gloria Simley

A couple of months ago, I received a telephone call from a Ms. Teri Smith, asking if we had any information on the American Foundation for Biological Research. They had an office building on East Buckeye Road back in the l950’s. It closed in 1975.

Ms. Smith is presently the office manager of Biomedical Research Institute in Rockville, Maryland, a non-profit organization stemming from the above-mentioned Foundation. I told her I would check with our Curator, Ann Waedelich and get back to her.

Ann found information in the files at the Dean House.

Unfortunately, Ms. Smith gave me the wrong telephone number and I had no way to give her the good news—that we had what she was looking for. I finally did a Web search for Biological Research, and listed among many, was a Maryland address. I took my chances and after copying several articles and pictures, sent them to that address.

About a week later, I received a phone call from Ms. Smith, thanking me for the information—just what she was looking for.

Just recently, I received a lovely letter from the Director of the Institute, thanking us for all the information.

Along with the letter was a donation of $50.00 to be used for our Historical Society.

We receive several requests from throughout the country for various types of information, and we are happy when we can supply the answers. This was just such a request.

I thought you would be interested in knowing that your HBGHS is a constant source of Local History.
