| New Cornice for Dean House |
On Monday Oct. 30th, Forbes Construction and Masonry began to replace the cornice on the Dean House. In preparation for this work volunteers Bob Bean, Don Taylor, Gary Hess, Ann Waidelich, Bob Essock and Chuck Waity spent a total of 78 hours painting the wood cornice pieces with two coats of primer and two coats of the final brown color. Bob Bean and Gary Hess assisted carpenter Dick Waddell with the demolition and installation of the cornice. The new cornice, as well as a new cement floor in the basement, were made possible by a capital grant from the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission with support from the Overture Foundation and a matching private donation. Another part of the grant/donation allowed for the dirt floor in the basement to be replaced with concrete. This means that we will have a dry and clean space for storage and additional displays of agricultural artifacts. Come see these wonderful improvements. |

| Christmas Open House to Feature Harp Music |
The Dean House will host the annual Christmas Open House on Sunday December 10th from 1 to 4 pm. The house will be decorated, tours will be given, refreshments will be served and Cheryl Saltzman and Claire Siggelkow will be playing seasonal music on their harps. This is a wonderful opportunity for members to get acquainted with one another and to show your friends and relatives this wonderful treasure on Monona Drive. |
150 Years & 35 Years-Celebrated at the Dean House The Dean House celebrated 150 years of existence on September 10th with a birthday cake, a fanfare on the trumpet, and a brief history of the house. At the same time the Historic Blooming Grove Historical Society celebrated 35 years of effort with a recognition of all the volunteers who have contributed to the Society over the years. Monona City Council Presentation The Mayor presented a Proclamation to HBGHS on Monday November 20 at 7:30 PM. It recognizes the 150th anniversary of the construction of the Dean House and the 35th anniversary of the Historic Blooming Grove Historical Society. Our President Gloria Simley gave a brief "thank you" speech and invited those present to visit the Dean House. Several Board members attended the presentation. |
