On Monday Oct. 30th, Forbes Construction and Masonry began to replace the cornice on the Dean House.
In preparation for this work volunteers Bob Bean, Don Taylor, Gary Hess, Ann Waidelich, Bob Essock and Chuck Waity spent a total of 78 hours painting the wood cornice pieces with two coats of primer and two coats of the final brown color. Bob Bean and Gary Hess assisted carpenter Dick Waddell with the demolition and installation of the cornice. The new cornice, as well as a new cement floor in the basement, were made possible by a capital grant from the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission with support from the Overture Foundation and a matching private donation.
Another part of the grant/donation allowed for the dirt floor in the basement to be replaced with concrete. This means that we will have a dry and clean space for storage and additional displays of agricultural artifacts.
Come see these wonderful improvements. |
