The first mistress of the Dean House, Harriet Morrison Dean, will be honored on her 182nd birthday with a Victorian tea at her restored home, 4718 Monona Drive, on Sunday Nov. 13th from 2 - 4 p.m.

Mrs. Dean (impersonated by Ann Waidelich) will gather her well-wishers in the dining room about 2:45 p.m. and share with everyone the story of her life and her time in the house that she and her husband, Nathaniel Dean, built shortly before the Civil War.

Tea and cupcakes will be served and the house will be open for tours.

The public is invited to attend and to add to the ambiance with hats, gloves and other appropriate accouterments.

HBGHS wishes to thank Historic Madison, Inc., Madison's historical society for its donation of $1,000 in recognition of the fact that their "archives" are stored at the Dean House. And we wish to thank the Madison Area Doll Club for its donation of $500 in recognition of the fact that they meet monthly at the Dean House.

The Monona Landmarks Commission has published a new edition of its Monona Landmarks and Heritage booklet. It was unveiled at a open house at Bungalowen, 5805 Winnequah Road, on September 11th. The 96 page booklet includes descriptions of the 23 designated landmarks as well as information on Sears, Lustron, International style and Mid-Century Modern style homes in Monona. The Native American heritage section has also been expanded. The booklet can be purchased for $15 at the Monona city hall and is available in the Monona Public Library

Bungalowen's recent refurbishing was featured in an article in the July-August issue of Old House Interiors magazine. "Camp Bungalowen: simple, evocative rooms show how family tradition has held up for a century at a lakeside bungalow in Wisconsin". Bungalowen was built in 1911 by Jan Marshall Fox's grandparents Ray and Theo Pickford Owen and is a Monona landmark.
